This western Flanders city, back in the day prospered on account of the elaborately woven lace that was once its chief domestic product. Ladies everywhere of a certain wealth would claw one another’s eyes out for a collar of this fabulous lace. Aside from the lace and the chocolate, one thing Bruges has in multitudes is canals. Nicknamed, the “Venice of the North”, you won’t find a Rialto Bridge or a Bridge of Sighs but you will enjoy endless romantic walks and boat rides alongside stunning buildings.
