Travel insurance – book it as soon as you like!

September 11th, 2009 — 09:07 am

All England fans setting off for South Africa next year should get their travel insurance sewn up according to the article “No World Cup travel insurance? It’s football CRAZY!”

There is so much to organise but no worries, we’ve got plenty of time! We’ve got to get our tickets, get our flights sorted out, our documents and anything else we can think of! Now might be a good moment to look into our travel insurance, just in case something should happen to prevent us from actually going out there next June.

I was reading somewhere that many people who book holidays in advance have to claim on their holiday insurance way before they even get to the journey setting off date. Reasons for cancelling a trip are plentiful and can include Jury Service, redundancy and ill health. These three eventualities can happen to us any time so be sensible and book up some travel insurance as soon as you like! It makes sense.

JellieWellie asked:

Thinking of taking 2 kids to Thailand (aged 11 9) but as single-mum am concerned we might not be able to do an elephant trek if we can’t sit together.

What if I get delayed?

July 4th, 2009 — 02:18 am

Travel insurance comes in all shapes and sizes and the differences are all the more evident when it comes to delays. In the event our holidays are delayed travel insurance can be difficult to claim, or virtually impossible according to Gocompare.com. But is there good news on the horizon even if all the sun you get to see is through the window of the departures lounge?

The big smiley face of Virgin Money offers us some very good news, according to the article “STOP! Book travel insurance AFTER reading this!” If you have taken out Virgin travel insurance, for every eight hours your flight is delayed, you will receive a pay out of £25 and for eight hours after that until the maximum £100. Other travel insurers will not pay out until there is a delay of 25 days.

Not all seem as unreasonable, next to Virgin, Direct Line, AA and Endsleigh offer flexible comprehensive cover allowing customers to abandon holiday after half a days delay.

Attention all passengers of ‘swine flu airways’!

June 30th, 2009 — 07:06 am

With alerts for swine flu at a premium, travelling with a cold or the symptoms of flu can leave you feeling more than run down! Sitting in an airport departures lounge in the midst of a nasty coughing fit all I could feel was paranoid and nervous that everyone would think that I had swine flu and that it was my deadly intention to infect everybody sitting there!

Of course, nothing could be further from my mind but I did begin to realise how other people nursing a cold are feeling!

According to the article “Swine flu quarantine warning for visitors to China!” the officials at Chinese airports are not taking any chances. Not only are they confining people displaying flu-like symptoms, they are also banging up people just for flying in on the same plane as them.

The warning is make sure your travel insurance covers you for unexpected quarantine confinement while visiting China because it could happen to you. Even if you aren’t even ill!
