Start with €200, this should be plenty to cover all costs, like getting around, buying lunch, small and not too expensive souvenirs, and getting into one or two of the sights. If you need more you can always find one nearby, ask in a restaurant or something. Attempt to speak French. Even if you aren't very good at it, they do appreciate the effort and are more inclined to help you. Use the Paris metro system, it's the best way to get across the city. It seems complicated but it really isn't. And watch out for pickpockets! They're a scourge in every city.
