Can you take a gap year with the police?

Rocky9287 asked:

I want to join the police but I am also planning on taking a gap year and travelling around the world. Does anyone know if I can train for the police and then take a gap year or if I will just have to wait until I am back before I apply for the police? Please advise. Thanks

Thats the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Would be like going to an interview, then when they offer it you say ‘oh well im off on holiday for a year but keep the offer open for me yeah?’

Placements in the police are highly sought after. They want people who want to work.

In the uk you have a two year probationary period , before you are confirmed .During this period you attend regular training and a continous assessment .You have to be committed to get through , it doesnt sound to me like your ready , so if travelling is important to you do that first …..
