What do you think is the general attitude of the people of Malta towards the government?

Zoe asked:

This is for my research project, please help me? It’d be nice if you’d agree to me citing you in the paper. It’d be best if you were maltese or have some connection with Malta.

i think most are a bit skeptic about this government. in the last election, i think the mlp was not successful largely because of dr.sant – many did not trust him back in government. but the support for the nationalists is declining quickly. it is true that the gov is taking steps that are likely to make it less popular for the next election (increasing taxes, allocating funds to certain sectors and removing funding from others, introducing new laws and more restrictions and being more strict. in a way, it is good these things are being done, but the poor may suffer more in order for the changes to happen.

because of the new leader, i would guess that the next gov will be labour. and let’s face it, whether you are a nationalist or a labourite, it’ll be good to have a taste of different politics after nearly 20 years or more.

hope this helped. no need to cite me in the paper though, as ‘Shaba’ is hardly what i would call a name! :)

being a maltese student, i would say that we live in a democratic country were you have to vote between a bad governing party and a very bad governing party. the problem lies mostly because the government invest more in stuff that is not important. Something that bugs students is our benefits itself. university students get payed for studying, and really good!!! they even get allowances for books and internet bills. now wouldn’t it be better if they cut their allowances and use the money to fund government/public schools which need renovation and restructuring? but the government doesn’t care as long as they get the votes. even petrol for example, how come when petrol is low during recession, in malta we get monthly increases ? whats the deal with that? why are we paying more for a raw material that gets cheaper?

Ok , well . I went to malta with my grandmother over the summer because someone died and owned a house that was inherited my grandmother and her siblings. The way the government in Malta works is parliament. Well the woman who rents the house from my grandmother inherited it from her father and her father inherited it from his father. Even if you don’t own the house but your renting it you can inherit it for relatives if they pass away. People don’t really agree with the government in Malta. My family says that the government will change very soon. My second cousin is actually in parliament. Malta was under British rule until the very early 1900′s. i hop i helped.
