I am travelling to Grasmere, England. What would you recommend I see along the way from London to Grasmere?

Jo asked:

In September I shall be staying for a week in England’s Lake District in Cumbria. I will fly from Canada to London and then will go by train to Grasmere, Cumbria. Since I have 4 days before my stay in Grasmere, what towns, accessible by train, would you recomend that I visit on my way to Grasmere. Many thanks for any suggestions.

You might could visit the Buckingham Palace where the royal family lives. That might be interesting…and also the Tower of London would be a good place to visit as well.

York should be easily accessible although it wouldn’t be quite ‘on the way’. It’s a great town with a complete wall around the city, a psychic museum, a viking exhibit (complete with authentic smells!) and much more. The cathedral has it’s original medieval glass and the town is overall a treat to visit.
