bonjourbabex asked:
I was thinking of taking a gap year when I finish High school before I went to college, is it worth it? I wanted to go to somewhere like LA and look around for any auditions or courses that might be available. If i start saving up now then it should be okay. Do you have any advise, please?

You need to listen very closely to this:
It is a very unsafe business to go out there and just try to audition. You need a plan, where you could possibly go to college out there (trust me, you can do both college and acting careers). You then need to find an agent, since they are your key to getting any auditions at all. It is hard, but there are a few conventions that you can go to to help agents scout you after you have already had formal acting training at some acting school. Acting is a very unsteady career if you’re not one of the celebreties, and alot of the smaller actors do not have as much cash as you think. So you’d need probably a side job to do when you’re not acting to help support your everyday life.
I’m sorry if this sounds small and harsh, but I just want to tell you before you do it. It takes alot of work and risk to do something like that. This is how alot of aspiring actors get into alot of financial trouble, because it is not an easy thing to do. I have been through this multiple times, and you need to trust me on this one.
Best of luck!
If you don’t have any acting experience, I wouldn’t go there. There is such a talent overload that experience has become the deciding factor in a lot of auditions. Instead, so some community theater and singing and acting courses over summer and during your year at college. Then, search for an agent and head out to LA the next summer when you are prepared.
However, if you do have experience, go for it!
If you have the money to support yourself go for it.
You only live once!
Others have already given you fair warning. I’ll add to it. Coming out here to LA for a year to try and make a go of the business as an actor will certainly be an adventure but it would also be a waste of a perfectly good year. Overnight success generally takes 10 years.
