Im visiting europe for the summer and?

TheAnswerGuy asked:

After the excitement went away I realized that being in a country where I dont speak any other languages is very scary. I plan to visit major cities in Germany, France, Spain, and maybe Sweden/Finland. Im not soo worried about france and germany because I can at least try to speak those languages.. my main fear is Germany due to the harsh and hard to learn language. are my fears well founded?

wait..you said Im not soo worried about france and germany because I can at least try to speak those languages.. my main fear is Germany which doesn’t really make sense, but yeah, I’ve lived in Germany for a year and can sort of speak German, but not very well..i wouldn’t bother learning the language, in all major cities most people speak English, just learn numbers up to 10 so that you can deal with money…have fun!

Not at all. Many people in Germany speak English anyway, and I’m sure they’d be helpful if it was obvious that you couldn’t speak German. As for other countries, you’ll have no problem making yourself understood even if you don’t speak the language, especially in the major cities. Buy a phrase book and try to use what little of the language you know; people will appreciate that you at least made an effort.

You wont have any trouble finding someone to speak english. I have found it sometimes difficult with the Germans to get them to speak english if you do not first at least make an attempt in German. just learn a few of the basics..please, thank you, excuse me and learn to ask them if they speak english in German..that always helps
