Michael © CE Freedom Party. asked:

An Australian backpacker in Snowdonia came accross a shepherd back scuttling a sheep, he called across to the shepherd and said, ‘hey mate, are you a shearer?’
‘No boyo’ the shepherd replied ‘you have to catch your own!
Welshy, just for you.
It is a daily event in Oz and Wales?
One ‘mounts’ a horse from the left side, not from the rear!

What is your opinion on gap year taken by students leaving school?

July 22nd, 2009 — 10:54 am
AmaZone666 asked:

In some countries it is common for students leaving school to do a gap year in which they travel, do voluntary work, or do a job before going on to higher education. Although this may benefit students in a number of ways, it also has a number of disadvantages.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Thanks

Travel Granada Spain - You Won't Be Lost For Things To Do

July 20th, 2009 — 11:06 am

Granada is a province in the region of Andalusia located in the South of Spain. The capital of the province has the same name and is listed as a World Heritage city. It has a rich and diverse heritage that can number Muslim, Islamic, Jewish and Christian ideas and architecture to define it's essence. For Spanish tourism, the city and it's famous monuments represent one of the most weel loved and visted parts of the country. Listen to some of the wonderful things on offer when you travel Granada Spain.

The city is built with the largest mountain range in southern Spain, the Sierra Nevada, as a backdrop. From many parts of the city, especially the Alhambra palace, you will see the distant, snow capped peaks of the mountain range.

Granada City – Discover A Rich Cultural Diversity

The history of Granada details the myriad of influences that successive cultures have left on the city's architecture. The city flourished as a trading center under the Moors. In 1492, the Moorish rulers were defeated and the city passed into the hands of the Spanish King Ferdinand II. The city grew in christian religious importance when a cathedral was built and intellectually when a university was established in 1531.

Preceding the takeover of the city by Christian monarchs, the arcitecture represented the ideas of the Moorish leaders. Although many of the Moorish and Arabic influences in the city were willfully destroyed by the following cultures, it still represents one of the most complete examples of Moorish buildings and architecture in Europe.

With the Christian influences, architecture conformed to the Gothic and Renaissance styles that were commonplace throughout central Europe.

The mix of Moorish, Islamic and Chistian architecture and influences in the city dating back hundreds of years is a great attraction for any tourist keen to see a lost past.

The province’s mountainous setting has preserved the patchwork quilt like perspective into the cultures which have influenced Granada. Travel Granada Spain via train and you will get a more complete and accurate picture of the many different cultural influences that make up the city as a whole. It is very easy to get to Granada via high speed train from Madrid Atocha. Without doubt, you are just a few hours away form the lively atmosphere and rich cultural artifacts of Granada by taking the fast train from Madrid.

Lanzarote Villa and Apartment Breaks

July 20th, 2009 — 11:06 am

The current economic doom and gloom means that some holiday makers will be staying at home this year. Rather than enjoying a sunshine break abroad.  And whilst no destination is immune many, such as Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, will still be attracting a sizeable amount of arrivals.  Despite the weak pound and economic climate.

This is great news for the tourists visiting the island as there are some great deals to be had on Lanzarote holiday villas and Lanzarote apartments.

Last year Lanzarote welcomed just over 1.5 million tourists.  But this figure is sure to fall during 2009.  As arrivals have already dropped by around 20%, during the first quarter of this year, according to AENA, the Spanish airport authority.  But for many in the UK and Eire a domestic break can be just as expensive, if not more so.  And still offers no real guarantee of sunshine.

Self catering holidays on islands such as Lanzarote can in fact work out to be very affordable.  The cost of a weeks stay in many Lanzarote apartments for example starts at around €170 per week.  And this is the price per room, rather than per person.   Those looking for a really good accommodation deal should search for apartments in Puerto del Carmen.  As Lanzarote´s biggest resort offers the largest range of choice, boasting hundreds of complexes.

The bulk of these tend to be located in the New Town area.  Usually in close proximity to the beach (within ten minutes walking distance) and all of the other amenities of the resort.  Puerto del Carmen has also enjoyed a makeover in the last twelve months.  And now boasts a smart new beachfront promenade and an upmarket marina in the Old Town harbour area.  So further enhancing the resorts appeal.

For those who prefer more space and a private pool there are lots of good quality Lanzarote villas available for rent in all locations right across the island.Expect to pay from €400 upwards for a standard two bedroom villa with swimming pool.  With many owners offering deals on their villas in Playa Blanca for early bookings.  As competition for business intensifies in the islands southernmost resort due to an over supply of property there.

Playa Blanca is an ideal location for a break in the sun.  Not least as it enjoys the best microclimate on the island.  And is also home to some of Lanzarote´s finest beaches – such as the set of coves at Papagayo, which are just fifteen minutes walk from the town centre.  Along with Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo in the heart of the resort itself.

Visitors to the Canary Islands will get a warm welcome and have a fantastic holiday regardless of their choice of destination.

Travel England – Bolderwood In The New Forest National Park

July 20th, 2009 — 11:06 am

An absolute must see place to visit in the New Forest is Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary and the Ornamental Drive. A beautiful drive to get here and a trip that is worth a whole day or to come back again and again. A very happy day can easily be spent here for the whole family.

In case you didn’t know the New Forest National park was once the hunting grounds of the former kings of England, and some of the ancient traditions are still practiced today by the commoners.

The car park at Bolderwood gets really busy, so on a really lovely sunny day, plan your trip early to avoid disappointment. Adjacent to the car park and the woodland there is an open green which is great for having your picnic and a family/friendly game of rounders. You can get a delicious forest ice cream from the resident ice cream van here.

In the woody area at the entrance to Bolderwood you will find picnic tables, portable barbeque facilities and toilets. Here you will also find an information centre, often manned by a friendly forest ranger who can help with questions about the forest. Children and adults can have some fun seeing how many questions they can answer from the quiz!

From the Woodland area of Bolderwood you can choose from a selection of walks. One of the walks is the Bolderwood Deer Watch Trail. Throughout the walk you might spot the odd deer in the forest among the trees if you are quiet but if you miss them then you are sure to see some deer in the nearby sanctuary. Here there is a viewing platform and the deer here are a little more used to human prescence so you are bound to catch a glimpse of some deer grazing.

If you decide to take the Jubilee Walk, this is a about half a mile and will take you through the Bolderwood Arboretum. This is a fabulous display of a range of trees which began as far back as the 1800’s. Unfortunately, because of the high winds we had here in 1987 and further more in 1991, many of the great trees were destroyed. A project of ongoing planting has since been put in place to return this area to its original beauty.

The Radnor Trail is another walk which will take you through this ancient beautiful forest, during this walk you might spot the odd Deer grazing in the distance hiding amongst the many more variety of tree species. There are many suitably placed benches to take a rest for a while and to admire the beauty of the forest surrounding you.

Cycling is a great past time throughout the whole of the forest. Bolderwood is no exception to this and it does in fact form part of the 100 mile New Forest Cycling network. The Bolderwood cycling trail is approximately 7 miles long and can take about 3 and a half hours.

During your visit to Bolderwood you must take the time to drive through Bolderwoods Ornamental Drive. This is at its most beautiful during the summer and its windy narrow road takes you through the tremendous ancient woodland. It forms part of the 100 mile New Forest Cycling network so there are many cyclists along this route and because of its beauty the drive does become quite busy, so please be careful.

If you are looking for friendly local accommodation visit New Forest cottages for local self catering holiday cottages or New Forest hotels for luxury and hotel accommodation.
