visit to Atlanta, Georgia, USA using two flights?

May 24th, 2009 — 06:36 am
Isobel M asked:

We were able to fly direct from Edinburgh to Atlanta but Delta is now discontinuing this. If I say take one of the cheaper airlines to say Manchester then use a schedule flight say via Delta does the cheaper airline ensure that I would be on time etc to meet my next flight. I seem to recall somewhere that I was told always take the same airline if using two flights as they have to get you to your destination. Also would the smaller airline check my baggage all the way through to Atlanta

How does the smoking ban work in respect of lock-ins after closing time?

May 23rd, 2009 — 01:34 pm
Not Ecky Boy asked:

We have had a smoking ban in Scotland and Ireland for some time now and I believe our nearest neighbours will soon implement one too. Good.

But I found out an interesting thing recently. I visit my local pub every couple of weeks and recently noticed that the regulars didn’t seem to arrive until much later- shortly before closing time, in fact.

On making enquiries I was intrigued to find that they are arriving late so they can participate in the lock-in. This is after closing time, when the bar is supposedly shut to the public. Ostensibly the owner can then decide who gets to participate in the lock in and- here’s the interesting bit- they all stand at the bar and smoke away merrily on their cigarettes. The owner is a smoker himself and heartily approves of this behaviour.

What’s the legality of this situation, and is any law being broken by it?

Gap years are not only for the young!

May 19th, 2009 — 06:06 am

Gap years have always commonly been associated with the young. All those teenagers that flock the third world in order to gain life experiences that will help them in their careers will now find their travel pals are more mature than usual.

Things are a-changing as the credit crunch takes its grip on our nation. Jobs are harder to find than ever and the country’s work force continues to struggle battling for those few and far between posts. According to the article “These times they are a changing – say hello to the Beccy!” people are responding to the economic downturn in a positive way, by taking a gap year out of the UK.

Beccys (also known as Brits Escaping Credit Crunch Year) tend to be older (in their forties) and with a reasonable redundancy package safely stored away. These people are choosing to escape the country motivated by their hope to get something positive out of a very negative situation, Britain’s economic downturn. While we wish them good luck we also applaud insurance companies like MRL Insurance for recognising these people and for not penalising them on the basis of their more advancing years (as the others do).

Holidays down Memory Lane!

May 18th, 2009 — 08:10 am

Have we forgotten the ancient art of holidaying at home? Suddenly we are in a predicament where we find that taking a holiday at home is the sensible thing to do. People are talking about walking down memory lane and see their summer holiday as holding many a forgotten treasure. But have we forgotten how to best holiday at home?

When you go abroad we know that we will need travel insurance and that medical cover is essential too. Why should it be any different at home? We will still need travel insurance, car insurance, in some cases, medical insurance and of course possessions insurance.

According to the article “Top tips for this years UK holidaymakers!” there is currently a trend in the holiday market of British people booking their holidays at home rather than abroad. Thanks to the low pound and swine flu, for some reason, people are not too keen on holidaying abroad! But lets not be casual about the whole thing. If we choose to holiday to home, we need to think carefully and responsibly about our insurance cover.
