Armando M asked:
I have a globe trotting aunt who wants to visit countries in Europe and she is asking me which one is best. She wants the one with the nicest sights within the city (parks, castles, museum, etc.), good food and speaks good English. She plans to go to the Spring, so no problem about the cold, I suppose.

Any thoughts?

If you go to Sweden then go in late spring (probably applies to Norway and Denmark too). Then everything is bright green and there are flowers everywhere. Copenhagen (Denmark) is the biggest city in Scandinavia, Stockholm (Sweden) the second largest and Oslo (Norway) the third; meaning there’s more to do in Copenhagen than the others.
Norway has fjords and beautiful landscapes and all that, it’s rather mountainous. Sweden is flat and covered with forests and over 100 000 lakes (meaning very green and lots of flowers too). Don’t really know about Denmark. But that’s just a suggestion if she would ever leave the city. Denmark and Stockholm have big parks, Stockholm is apparently (according to some foreigners’ comments that I’ve read) a Venice of the north (I respectfully disagree but there’s no doubt that she will cross many bridges), don’t know about Oslo.
All cities are old and that actually looks nice. There are castles in all three cities (and royal families). All countries’ populations speak good English (Swedes are the second best in Europe (outside the UK and Ireland) after the Dutch, don’t know about the others but we are almost the same anyway, you probably won’t notice any difference) and according to me the food is god but I’m Swedish too.. depends on what you like.
I GUESS that Copenhagen has the most to see since it’s the biggest but Stockholm isn’t much smaller anyway. Copenhagen is the most expensive city, Oslo the second most (barely any difference) and Stockholm the least (but still expensive).
Ask if there’s something else or if I’ve forgotten anything. Have fun.
Best does depend on the specifics for your Aunt.
Copenhagen probably has the most to do, but the size means longer distances between places.
Oslo is smaller and more compact, but has a good range of parks and Museums.
Stokholm is not that much different from Copenhagen.
What I would recommend is reviewing the Time out city guides and then selecting. People in all these places generally have good English as a second language so that shouldn’t be a problem.
I would recommend your aunt Denmark, as it is a gate to Scandinavia and she can travel from one place to another within relatively short distances.
Denmark has also a lot to offer: except fjords, she can find here beautiful beaches with well equipped camps, green farmlands and also Copenhagen is a wonderful city with its Little Mermaid and Freetown Christiania. To find out more to decide, here are some hints
Sweden or Denmark
Sweden or Denmark. Either Stockholm or Copenhagen have a lot more going for them than Oslo, as cities – they are bigger, more beautiful, more to see etc.
Norway has by far the most spectacular scenery, but it is too expensive. This ruined it for me. It is a very wealthy country, and unfortunately, this means it is a rip-off.
SWEDEN or DENMARK
