We’re all going on a summer holiday! The summer is here, we’ve booked the holiday, bought the sun cream but it feels like there’s something missing. We all have limited money thanks to the credit crunch but even that is not going to stop us as we’re staying at home and enjoying some good old- fashioned seaside nostalgia. But what of travel insurance – do we or don’t we get some?
On the subject of travel insurance, it never fails to surprise me that only half the holidaying population of Great Britain will purchase any when vacationing at home. According to the article “Avoid taking an insurance holiday on vacation!” people tend not to be programmed to take out travel insurance when holidaying at home. Is it to save money? This surely can’t be the reason because travel insurance policies cost very little. It is possible to insure the whole family for a week away for as little as nine pounds!
The problem is not to do with money (or lack of it) in my opinion there is a certain perception that changes depending on whether you take a holiday abroad or on your doorstep. When people holiday at home they tend to feel in control to a greater extent than when on the continent and the fear of an accident occurring is a lesser fear. Sadly, accidents can happen anywhere so let’s get over it and get that cover!
