Should I buy a Trek 1500 racing bike on ebay?

PleaseRedirect asked:

It looks exactly what I want, I asked for his measurements and they match mine so there is a good chance it will fit well. Was wondering if there is anything I should watch out for? Hopw much should I pay?
Second answer says they are $1000 new, ie £500, but this one has Ultegra, whereas he chats about 105. Someone clear this up?

They are £900-£1000 new. It depends how much you really want it I would go up to £650 if it is in good condition.

    What year?

This is a really fine introductory road bike (better than entry level). The 105 group is an excellent value and the wheels are good. Check to make sure it has the 105 brakes and not the no name brand they put on earlier models.

The next model up, the 2100 has rear carbon stays and a better ride, but it’s much more expensive. I think the 1500 is a great bargain. Look for a Discovery Channel edition. If it fits, you can’t really go wrong…unless you pay too much: $500 – $750 is about right for a 2007. They sell for $1100+ new, with discounts generally bringing them down to about $1000.

I got one in 2005 for £1200 and it was a good bike then. Mine has Ultegra bits on which are still working after 4000/5000 miles. The wheels, whilst not the lightest around, have never been out. The only thing I have replaced – besides the usual cables, tyres and pads – is the headset. These are specially made to fit and arent cheap. About £80 if I remember.
Not sure of used values. Try looking at new and discount sales prices from some of the big bike shops on line and working out if you would be better spending a bit more on an unused one

you have ansews here in american dollers uk pounds but bear in mind things in the us are oftern alot cheaper, your better 2 mail the seller and ask him approx how old the bike is and around what he paid 4 it new, im sure he will help you there then just put a figure in your head you dont want to go over when bidding…. but also bear in mind postage costs and i`d also have it serviced2… iv actually jus bought a coppi road bike off ebay it cost an extra £80 for a shop 2 build it and service it 4me but its the piece of mind knowing it`s all running A1, good luck
