When they have a ship for you then you will get a call.
You won’t leave the same day of the interview. It could be several weeks/months/or days. If a current employee gets sick or has a family emergency, it could happen sooner then you think.
Pros
-You will go to areas that most people may not see.
-Get to know the cruise directors. They can hook you up with free excursions sometimes.
-Waking up to beautiful scenery, or some exotic location.
-Will develop life long friends.
Cons
-Long hours/hard work.
-Sometimes cramped living quarters
-Your always ‘at work’ even if you off. No way to really have time to yourself, or do what you want when you want. Even your time in port is only based on your work schedule, and the ship arrival/departure time.
-Isolation from friends and family.
-Some of the passengers can be difficult.
-Tough to pay bills, etc….
Most likely they call you sooner than later, after the interview.
Pros
Able to save money
Travel around the world (depends on which cruise line)
meet a lot of new people
gain more experience in a shorter time
easier to make a career
Cons
Long hours, hard work
Shared living quarters
Crew Drills
Difficult to communicate with friends and family
A strict hierarchy – need to adhere to rules (can be military like)
It could be days, weeks, months, it’s hard to tell. It is just when a position becomes available for you.
For me, I had an interview in May of 2007, and started working on the two months later in July.
Generally before you sign on you need to have your medical completed. Which they will probably tell you about in the interview.
