There are around 20 resorts of varying size on the popular holiday island of Mallorca. Each boasting it s own unique character and identity. But which is the ideal destination for you?
In many ways Mallorca is much like a football match – that is to say it is split into two distinct halves. With the south of the island still struggling to overcome the full English breakfast reputation earned during the 1980´s by resorts such as Magaluf. Which for a while became synomous with the worst excesses of package tourism. Whilst the north is cooler and more upmarket. Reflected in the fact that this part of the island is home to a large selection of the best holiday villas in Mallorca. Many of which have been constructed from traditional local stone.
Alcudia
Alcudia is located on the island’s north coast and is home to the largest beach on Mallorca. Which extends for over 8km and which makes this the number one choice for beach lovers on the island.
As a result Alcudia is home to a large number of hotels and holiday complexes – the bulk of which are located along this fine stretch of sand. Which shelves gently into the Mediterranean.
Alcudia is located around one and a half hours from the sole international airport at Palma and is ideal for families and couples seeking a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the mega resorts such as Magaluf.
Arenal
Arenal is located on the south coast of the island – just 12 km away from the capital of Mallorca. Making transfers quick and easy. And is more of a party destination – enjoying popularity with a younger demographic of holidaymakers. Who flock to the main beach by day before heading out to party in the bars and clubs by night.
Puerto Pollensa
Puerto Pollensa is the coastal sister resort to the former Roman settlement of Pollensa in the north of the island. And is around 8km away – boasting a great beach as well as a good selection of bars and restaurants. All of which is set against the highly dramatic backdrop of the Tramantura Mountains – which really dominate the landscape in this part of the island.
Magaluf
Party central – Magaluf is located close to the capital and the airport and attracts an 18-30´s crowd. Boasting a host of bars and discos. This is one of the liveliest resorts in Spain so don’t expect a quiet break if you have booked your holiday here!
