Is it worth taking? Im due to head off to uni next year or so and from what i hear the debts are huge. Is a gap year wise so i can raise cash or should i just go off to Uni whilst i have everything in my head? Please give me your suggestions.

Take it after UNI
Forget the debts thing…it’s built up by the media. You may have several £k debt but it this should not affect your decision to study. It doesn’t ‘cut in’ for pay back until you are earning a fair amount. I know of many who never even noticed the deductions and paid it off without thinking.
If I was you I’d do the Gap year After UNI and before taking a proper job. You’ll be 3 years older, wiser and more informed…plus you can make a better choice of what to do on the Gap that might assist in a job hunt later.
Also you might decide to take a taster ‘gap’ whilst at UNI by going to camp America or somthing for a few months which is one way of getting some contacts and things that might pay off later too.
There is little to be gained by taking the Gap between school and Uni UNLESS you do not really know what you want to study yet…and need the ‘thinking time’
my daughter is going to Ghana for a while in her gap year. She is working hard ( in Tesco) to save for uni, but reassures me everyone takes a year out. Leeds, Broadcast Journalism. I’m so proud. x
Take a Gap year! And not just to save up money, it’s definitely a good idea to do some travelling, even if it’s just working for Eurocamp for a few months or on a ski resort. You’re going to get into debt anyway so I wouldn’t worry about saving money for uni, I took a gap year and it changed my life!
