I need to avoid frizzy wavy hair on a trip to Thailand in May – any suggestions?

Mandy R asked:

I have thick coarse (but not naturally curly) hair and in hot climates end up looking like Monica from that episode of friends!! I am going on a trek to the Hillside tribes and really want some good photos… Would definitely consider chemical straightening if recommended or just coating my hair in something.. Grateful for any advice :-)

Leave conditioner on your hair at all times.

You could maybe try the Yuko system, its expensive though about £300 but you never need to straighten your hair, (but have to get it topped up after about a year, at a significantly reduced cost). Toni Guy do it…but in my experience they weren’t very good so it might be a good idea to look around.

    Shave it all of.

What about braiding? I know it’s very 80s and all that, but it would be the best way of avoiding the problem.

It would also be cooler when in that hotter climate.

leave in conditioner or plaiting you hair ,serum is OK but looks greasy, what happens is as soon as moisture and humidity hits your hair it will go into its natural curl,by coating it with some leave in conditioner it will protect your hair from moisture and keep it in place.

If you’re going around now, it’s not really that bad, heat wise( I’m Canadian and even I didn’t hurt, like I did in Singapore). If you’re concerned about what the Thais may think of you with frizzy, wavy hair, then you may need to read up a bit on the country you’re going to.
Thailand has to be one of the most progressive and open societies in that area of Asia. Your hair style or lack thereof, won’t mean squat. Just to you. I will add something here though. Don’t go there ( or anywhere for that matter) with style in mind. What’s stylish at home, ain’t always where yer’ going. If you want to be in there…well, from my experience, the Thais think that who you are is more important that what you want to look like.
Have I been there? Yep. I did the Eastern and Orient up from Singapore( friggin hot) in ’95 and dived Phuket in ’03.
Be YOU, be polite and have fun. The people are great.
