I’ve applied to University for September but now want a Gap year. What should i do?

President Osman asked:

I’ve applied to University for September, and have had two Conditional acceptances. I would now like to take a GAP year just to work and see how things are. I’d also like to maybe travel around and see places. But im not sure what to do in relation to the applications. If i say to the Universities i want a GAP year, will my place still be available to me in a years time?

Any help would be great! :)

you need to calm down lol!
ok, do your university degree, because now you’ve had acceptance it would give you a bad reputation to pull out. then, after studying, do a year or so of travelling – it gives you a break between uni. and the working world and by this time you will have hopefully made enough money to have a great time, as well as it is something to look forward to! :)

My younger brothers doing a similar thing to you (I think), but weren’t you supposed to apply for deferred entry at your chosen Universities? If you wished to do a GAP year before heading off to Uni?

Although I’m open to being wrong, usually am ;)

defer your option for a year thats what im doing i didnt know if i could get on this year long course after my a levels so i applied for uni just incase i didnt as im going to uni oneday anyway, and now im doing this other course i will have the option to defer my entry for a year and still have the place

im wanting to do film and media production btw i dont know if all unis and courses offer the same option but im sure quite a few do

You should contact the relevant admissions tutors and speak to them informally. It may be that you need to get a firm offer (after your results) and then ask to defer for your gap year. I would expect admissions tutors to be fine with this.

You should contact the university and see whether they would be willing to defer you offer till september 2010. It probably best to call the admissions department and see what they have to say.

    Best of luck
