This is a major factor in determining a timetable. The other factor is that such trains as there are to/from Stranraer are timed to meet certain ferries. The resultant service is irregular and infrequent. It is about 90 minutes from Stranraer to Ayr. No need to book in advance - usually no problem getting a seat, especially in November! The fare is £11.70 Alternatively, there is a bus service operated by Stagecoach West Scotland between Stranraer and Ayr. Numbered 358 or 360, depending on the route between Girvan and Maybole, it operates approximately every 2 hours and takes two hours. The fare is £5.80 - pay the driver on boarding. I'm not sure whether these are times to connect with the ferries. It will take you top the ferry. You walk on and joiun at the other end. Itakes you all the way for a cheaper price including your ferry fare.
