What is an estimated budget for backpacking through the UK for 2-3 weeks?

megauld asked:

I’m planning on backpacking in the UK for 2-3 weeks in summer 2007. I’m wondering how much money I should plan to have stockpiled before I go, and how much I may need while traveling.

Depends on your taste in transport, food and accomodation:

hostels are about 10-15 (all prices in Sterling) except for London where they’re usually 20+.

Trains are quicker than buses, but pricier too. Investigate Eurail pass to save money- it’ll pay for itself. At least 200 quid.

Self-catering vs buying all food? Pubs have cheap evening meals- 6-7 and a cool way to meet locals. depending on your appetite and tastes: 12 a day for 3 meals?

Admission: London, 8-12 for most things, although many galleries and museums are free.

Entertainment: 2-3 a pint of beer.

Examine your needs and tastes, insert above prices and whahey: the world’s your lobster…
