How should I take money while on a year long + backpacking trip?

alice K asked:

Mostly a question for people in Ireland.
I am intending on taking a long backpacking trip which obviously will require money. Does anyone know how I can safely do this without incurring astronomical bank charges eg when withdrawing from an atm

ATMs across the world have much lower bank charges than you think. Find a bank account with low charges and go with that – it’s much easier than carrying cash (risky) or using Western Union or whatever (expensive).

Take a lot of money out at a time (like a week’s worth) and pay your accommodation up front so you’re not carrying too much around. That’ll reduce the bank charges.

ATM considered as the lowest cost of bank charges,
You can take Traveller checks, You could book all your trips and pay for it in advance and go with prepaid arrangement and save costs and rick of carying cash.*
